Undergraduate Lab Assistant

Looking for highly motivated students who want to learn while they work in the exciting areas of bioinformatics, computational biology, and systems biochemistry.

In particular, seeking students who are 2nd semester freshmen up to 2nd semester sophomores (up to 1st semester juniors if in a 5-year program) with an interest in chemistry, biology, math, physics, and/or computer science. Applicants should have a very strong interest (spiritual calling) in obtaining the following types of skills, but prior experience is definitely helpful:
  • Critical evaluation of primary scientific literature.
  • Programming, especially in Python, R, C++, or Java.
  • Computer algorithm and data structure design.
  • Applied math especially in graph theory, linear algebra, numerical analysis, statistical analysis, error analysis, inverse problems, or differential equations.
  • Problem domains in biochemistry, structural biology, and metabolomics.
  • Linux installation, use, and administration.
  • Virtual machine creation, use, and administration.
  • Web and wiki page design.

This research environment will provide unique opportunities to develop programming, problem solving, and critical thinking skills while working on real scientific problems.
Have a resume ready when you inquire about a position.
